Just a quick comment to Kasey's post on tone and flow, in that I have thought tone to be heavily influenced by form. I have always identified as a commodity of form, the use of various textual and aural motions in a poem's framework, and a poet must tread lightly when implementing these style "types." One can not read a work in the tercets of terza rima (as an extreme example) without thinking of that "other-worldly" quality of Dante.
And the implied pattern of "flow" seems to me a current.
...we just had a record-breaking flash flood here in Phoenix--3 inches in a single hour (7 inches is an average "annual" total); the desert ground acts as a concrete floor, and can not absorb the water fast enough. My roof has a flow...I have three buckets catching "flows" that are "drips." So I guess a drip is a flow too!
...and too much flow is a flood, like Hallmark poetry...
...now is a bad attitude tone?
